Matthew 5:13
"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses it's saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot."
I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel "trampled underfoot" as a Christian in the world today. We were made to be the salt! The preservation of the Truth and the seasoning of Christ! Not the leftovers that have gone bad.
Salt is used to preserve food and to bring out the food's natural flavors. So considering that we, as Christians, are here on this earth to preserve the gospel. The truth of the Bible, upon which we stand, isn't being preserved very well if Christians are constantly sacrificing truth to be more popular in the world and by trying to blend in with the crowd because making a stand is too scary. Every time we compromise, the truth starts to rot and no longer holds much value. That's when we make ourselves to be the irrelevant leftovers that need to be thrown out. When I make food I want to KNOW that it is pure and good. I definitely don't want to have to sniff my food and hope that it's okay. I want God's truth to be preserved in me and through me!
When you encounter people, remember that you may be that person's first experience with Christ's love and grace. Or maybe that person has had years of bad experiences with "Christians" and he or she doesn't know what it truly means to be saved by grace and unconditionally loved by The Almighty. Use kindness in your words, patience in your actions. Show grace for other's faults. Be the unexplained joy in a dying world. Be the love that is shown to the underserving, compassion for the hurting. Bring a loving confrontation to a life of sin. Salt can sting sometimes, but God made us to be His tangible tools to help people. Be the SALT! Preserve the truth and share it!
