Being thoughtful doesn't have to be a grand gesture. Thoughtfulness is going out of your way or doing something extra for someone you love. If all you can afford is a handwritten note on a scratch piece of paper, then do it! It may seem insignificant to you, but it may be just what was needed by the person who receives it. Think of others!
One of my mom's favorite memories of my dad's thoughtfulness is one of their first anniversaries. They were newlyweds (and poor), so my dad bought a rose from a street vendor and made my mom a card out of construction paper. If you know my dad, homemade crafts isn't really his thing. But, his extra effort made the gift even more meaningful to my mom. It wasn't fancy, but she was blessed that he went to so much trouble to make their anniversary special when they couldn't afford anything.
Take the time to give of yourself! Give unexpectedly to the ones you love. Bring your kid a cookie just because. Send that card to your friend because you can't stop wondering how they are. Mail something to that someone who is grieving, even if you think you've waited too long. I once received a card several months after loosing someone I loved, and an encouraging note in the mail was just what I needed that day.
We are here on this earth for people, to love and to nurture them! Being thoughtful is a tangible way to express Christ's love. The Holy Spirit is constantly nudging us to reach out to people, even perfect strangers. Don't miss out on allowing Christ to use you to bless someone. Look for ways to make people smile!
